ABOUT THE CENTRAL FLORIDA CHAPTER OF COMTO
Mission Statement
Central Florida COMTO's mission is to strengthen
the position of minorities and women within the transportation
corporate industry through access to employment, career and contract
opportunities in the Central Florida area.
Vision Statement
Central Florida COMTO is a dynamic multi-modal
transportation organization that provides leadership programs as
well as, advocacy services to the needs of the businesses, members
and communities within the Central Florida area including, but not
limited to, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Hardee,
Highlands, Polk, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties.
The organization enhances quality of life for our
members and local community by providing:
1. a network for business opportunities,
2. strong national and local political
participation,
3. access to career advancement prospects,
4. insight on minority issues, training and
educational programs, and
5. scholarship opportunities.
Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Central Florida COMTO Chapter is: to promote
better conditions, circumstances and an environment under which all
minority groups may achieve meaningful representation, participation
and beneficial results arising out of, and in connection with, the
operation of designated public or private transportation facilities
of all modes. Designated facilities are defined as (a) those
facilities which are the direct or indirect beneficiaries of, and
participants in, United States federal, state/territorial and local
government funding, and (b) those facilities impacted by federal,
state/territorial and local transportation legislation involving
highways, railroads, waterways, air transportation and mass
transportation.
The Central Florida COMTO Chapter will develop, conduct and
convene transportation education activities within the meaning of
Section 501 (c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code (or the corresponding
provision of any future federal tax laws) including, but not limited
to: (a) the study, investigation and analysis of the impact of
federal, state/territorial and local transportation legislation upon
the minority workforce, vendor and customer base; (b) research into
programs, grants, and other resources available to minorities; (c)
promoting understanding within the appropriate governmental agencies
of the positive and negative impact of proposed legislation upon
minorities; (d) supporting the retention, expansion and enforcement
of all United States laws relating to equal opportunity; (e)
ensuring the active, visible and effective participation by all
minority groups in the affairs of transportation operations at the
policy-making, board of directors, and all other levels, in all of
the aforesaid jurisdictions, and in other professional and
public-interest transit-related organizations; and (f) the
development, support and conduct of educational training
opportunities, internship/work study programs, and scholarship
programs for graduate, undergraduate and high school students in
transportation, planning or other related fields.
The Central Florida COMTO Chapter will perform any and all
duties, enter into any agreements, and sign any and all documents
necessary and incidental to conduct the aforementioned activities;
and will engage the services of professional agencies, consultants
or any and all persons deemed necessary by the CEO and/or Board of
Directors to achieve the aforementioned purposes.
The Central Florida COMTO Chapter will engage in any other
relevant activities permitted by law and by Section 501 (c)3 of the
Internal Revenue Code (or the corresponding provision of any future
federal tax laws).
